40 Seasons of Rugby.
A good excuse for a few beers and a chat with old mates I would think. And so it turned out to be.

Trouty organised the bulk of the evening at the Christchurch Golf Club where there was drinking, dinnering & dancing along with a shit ton of mis-remembering how many metres we ran scoring our match winning solo tries.

Others pitched in to lend a hand with making it all run smoothly, such as Muncher and Johnno, but we'd all like to thank Trouty for his efforts.

As the Keiths; Old Coves and New Boys started to arrive, the level of excitement increased and the warm welcome everyone got from old mates was a joy to experience. New Boys (or Newish anyway) mingled with seasoned veterans and got on famously. Old Coves seemed genuinely interested in what and who and why and how the team was faring. And the beers didn't stop, even during dinner which was interrupted only by Muncher finally proving he no longer needed his wife to dress him. He did a grand job MCing the night which went far smoother than anyone anticipated.
I think the moderating influence of so many Keith wives had something to do with it.

Trouty gave an emotional speech about his daughters and squeezed in mentions of our great sponsors Keasty and Darryl. He also mentioned in passing a few old coves and their commitment to the team which was nice.
It was great to see the old fella being nice without a court order for once.

Johnno then read long lists of names with mentions of what those Keiths once did and as usual, people were kind enough to listen.

The meal then finished on a high note of baked alaska which i hope is a returning trend to restaurants around the world, cos it was lovely.

More beer, more dancing, more groups of Keiths talking wildly amongst themselves rounded off the night.

For the record, here are the lists that Johnno read from.

2ND GENERATION

Bill & Dayle EATHORNE
But not quite. Dayle played in the 21st Birthday game at Straven Road, but it was not a competition game and no records were kept.

Richard & Gareth SANDERS
But not quite. Rich decided he wanted to start playing again back in the 2000’s and to play alongside his son.
Unfortunately he “did his achillies” (a medical term) and pulled out (an ecumenical matter) before the season started. Gareth decided not to play for us.

Peter & Karl HADDOCK
Karl played his first Keith game v Sydenham (12th May 2012) becoming the first official 2nd generation Keith to play.
Two games later v Marist-Albion (2nd June 2012) his father joined the starting XV to be the first Keithh Father/Son pairing in a match.

Dan & Josh JOHNSON
Josh played for us v Sydenham (16th July 2016) for the game on loan from Colts.

KEITHS NAMED KEITH
Only one player in the 40 season history of Keith Rugby has been named Keith.
On loan from Division 2, Keith QUIGLEY played v Sydenham (12th May 2012) for the one game becoming the hitherto only example of good parenting naming choices.
