THE ONE WHERE WE HAVE THINGS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, BUT DON'T. BECAUSE WE'RE BETTER THAN THAT.
The grounds were perfect. The weather was perfect. The preparation was perfect. The team was nearly perfect and the opposition and the win was waiting for us. So, we went out and took it. Then Suburbs took it back. And we went 'DA FUK?' and said 'not today gurlfriend' and basically, the score went up and down with us drawing four times with suburbs until the last few moments when they scored a late try. Final win hopes dashed.
Let us sit upon the ground, and tell sad stories of the death of kings, or at least, the end of a season well fought. And I do mean well fought because a fight the season was.
Poacher and Chief struggled to get a momentum going forward at the beginning, the players struggled to know each other on the field and the team as a whole struggled with serious injury from almost the first game. It just shows the strength of Keith to put all that aside and come together to reach the final and put everything on the line.
We can say we missed certain individuals today, which we did, but those 15 who started the game, those 8 reserves who came on and even those 3 reserves who didn't get to play were the ones doing the job. Freddy was up the guts as usual. Sam was everywhere, Jamie was a tackling machine, Moto was running everywhere like a blue arsed fly followed by Bravo slipping one or two down the side. Even Paddy tried to get his first try in after three years.
Two former Keiths and part-time Dream Teamers, J.T. and Perce gave us a hand and we thank you for that, but I'd like to publicly give thanks to some full time Keiths.
To first time coaches Phil and Rob. It's hard work getting your message across after a team has been following another successful coach but you both took the team in the direction you wanted and it worked out to finals footy. Thank You.
Trouty, your inspiration and advice still resonates with Old Coves and New Boys alike. Thank You.
To Sonny Phil, the biggest thank you goes to you as I know how much time and effort it takes to manage this bunch of reprobates. And that's a lot of time and effort. Thank You.
Frankie. After getting the info you needed late in the game, cheers for getting the Keiths kitted out in some shiny new shirts. Boys are looking good. Thank You.
Big Paddy took up the mantle of Skipper with dignity and style. Which was mainly the style of leading from the front and going hell bent for leather. An inspirational Keith. Thank You.
Webby skippered us when Paddy wasn't there and as always, gave us direction and awareness of the ball and game. Thank You.
With all the injured Keiths this year, one injured Keith stands out. Paul was there every game wishing he could get out there and play. That was inspirational indeed. Thank You.
And to our major sideline support, Doug, Theresa, Ngawai and Yvonne (remotely) a huge Thank You.
And a big thank you to all the readers of these missives on the web site. I hope you've been informed and entertained.
Kokatahi looms and the less publicly written about what will happen there is best, but another looming Keith event is the Awards and Dinner. Look out for a great night.
