Player of the Day - Kris CURRIE

Well, we console ourselves that our long-tem plan of playing in fifth div this year is going to plan, with another loss to another 4th div team. Yep, Sydenham Saracens were the better team and it was a real baptism of fire for some of our new boys, but while it was a big loss, it will build our confidence in the long run.

Accolades to Bones for a hard 80 minutes, Trout for general resilience, and to Casey stepping up to 1st 5/8 and battling well against a former senior 1st 5 from the Saracens. Also, welcome to Barry and Ian, new boys in key flank and lock positions. We are getting some depth and are now able to field a team of players all in their specialist positions. As usual, despite this, we had some injuries which did not allow us as much flexibility in selections which we would of liked. We ended the game with Aaron and Tai locking and Kerry on the blind-side - again, accolades for guys willing to step up for the team regardless of what was asked of them.

Isaac also put his linesman reputation on the line calling Leyton in for a consolation try late in the game (what was that pass, Uli? trying out for the Flames?). I managed a loopy pass from a defensive scrum that also gave Leyton some extra exercise, whilst Oscar is continuing his game-by-game demostration of how to pass left and right, back and forward.

Perhaps, the day is best remembered for what Keith Rubgy is all about - tired players at the bar telling good stories. Kris and Barry found they were long-lost brothers, cos they knew the words to every Neil Diamond song ever written. Uli and Unit got on the microphone again, but the windows stayed intact. We found Ping again, fit again, ots of our lovely woman-folk joined us, and welcome to Scott, Gail and the girls to the club-room (with some lovely singing, but some dubious back-up melodys from Swede). I lost count of the number of jugs lined up, but the bar takings will be doing well this season.

Yes, another brewery night is under planning action - I'll keep you posted. Training 6pm South Hagley, Thursday night.
