1st Half
After a short delay (I forgot to start writing any notes) the game report got started.
Scrums seemed to be solid at first glance , but we had a few moments of nervousness as Linwood looked strong. But errors crept into their handling.
On our throwin we were often pushed back because we weren't blocking in the lineout. Chilli took some pressure off us as did Uli who was tackling well. Losing lineouts is not good 5 metres close to our line.
After a kick through by Chilli, Linwood slowly took more and more territory. Only their mistakes keeping them scoreless. Kearnsey tackling/scragging well. Linwood once again denied a try, but then they found the gap to score after 20 minutes.
Lovely vision set Eddie up to score but the bounce was against him (or he can't catch). Good pressure kept us at the Linwood try line for awhile, but couldn't get across.
Some general backwards and forwards play was the name of the game at this stage. Trouty decided after a being awarded a penalty that the quick try was the way to go, and Rob agreed and dotted down for 5.
Linwood struck right back scything through skitteries like hot butter. Chilli took quick action from the scrum but no support left Linwood with the ball. Pressure from the penalty let Linwwod score again.
2nd Half
Pressure from the backs kept Linwood back in their 22, then they burst through to encamp in our 22. Huge run from barry, taken over by Gus, caught magnificantly by Scott, passed to Rob to score his second of the day.
Scott took some lovely high ball and Kearnsey went down 'injured'. Boner ran well, Uli stole it well and Gus took a nice high hit.
Good pressure again took Linwood after some solid defence across the line. But the boys were still upbeat. Muncher elbowed Boner in the jaw which would have looked good on film in slow motion, who went down in a heap. Kick by Chilli nearly went astray but recovered well. Keiths in disarray while Linwood broke trough after some good hard running.
Scott pinged for a high tackle, Boner and Frankie had a tussle who then took it out on Phils back. Trouty and Muncher had a storming run together but the hard work was kicked away. Linwood continued their tradition of knock ons and Uli caused some problems with the Linwood hooker who had to be spoken to like a naughty schoolboy by the ref. He later on took a nice high tackle for the team.
Linwood were losing the discipline while we kept ours. Trouty and Muncher once again ran it well, but Linwood regained well by kicking over our heads. Linwood put pressure on the line but Lars and others kept them out. Chilli kept on giving us good distance but it was never enough. Quick hands let Linwood in when we weren't looking, for the final play of the game.
