No game, no scores, no winners or losers, just an awful lot of wetness.

So as a result of the grounds being closed and the game being cancelled, this is the only update there is, so read some rugby news instead.

The Crusaders put in a typically courageous effort, but the Bulls deservedly won the Rebel Sport Super 14 semi-final in Pretoria this morning thanks to their impressive firepower and a red-hot first-five in Morne Steyn.

Converted tries to Adam Whitelock and Kieran Read and two penalties had put the Crusaders out to a 20-7 lead after only 24 minutes but the Bulls regathered and took advantage of a few missed tackles to strike back.

First, wing Akona Ndungane scored after slipping down the left touchline, then impressive No8 Pierre Spies collected a poor chip kick and sprinted 60m to score under the posts.

Steyn's four drop goals, two in each half, also did for the Crusaders, who were behind 20-27 at halftime. Steyn's other drop goal attempt hit a post in the second half.

The Crusaders simply couldn't get into the game in the second half, the Bulls denying them possession and territory. The defending champions also weren't helped by the sinbinning of their outstanding

No8 Thomas Waldrom late in the first half, presumably for a professional foul, and an injury to Leon MacDonald, which robbed the Crusaders of their best back in the second half.

But to just make the top four was a massive achievement from the Crusaders, who were missing a wealth of personnel from last season and were hit by injuries.

To make their 11th semi-final after their mid-table ranking in mid-season was a fine effort and a credit to the team's determination and bloody-mindedness.

The Crusaders began the match brilliantly and rocked the Bulls with their intensity. MacDonald survived a scare only 30 seconds into the match when he collided with an opponent, his jaw coming off second best, but he returned to the match after a period in the blood bin.

However, he would be replaced at halftime and his absence was keenly felt.

Waldrom almost scored after only two minutes but lost the ball over the line after good work from Adam Whitelock and Read.

But the Crusaders came away with a penalty to Stephen Brett, who took over the kicking duties in MacDonald's absence.

The Bulls struck back with a try to Bryan Habana, who used his pace expertly to squirt around a ruck in between Brad Thorn and Richie McCaw.

Whitelock hit back with his try in the left corner after good hands from Jared Payne, Ryan Crotty and Tim Bateman, and MacDonald, back on the field, kicked a difficult conversion. At 10-7 things were looking positive for the Crusaders.

MacDonald kept the score ticking over with another penalty after 20 minutes, then Read scored his try, outjumping Ndungane when following up a perfect high kick from Brett.

After that it was rather one-way traffic to the Bulls.

Ndungane scored his converted try. Waldrom was yellow carded. Steyn kicked two dropped goals and then Spies kicked the Crusaders in the guts when carving upfield for his impressive try.

After the break Andy Ellis slotted a drop goal of his own to keep the Crusaders in touch - 23-27, but a Steyn penalty with 14 minutes to go stretched the lead for the Bulls.

Two more field goals, one from halfway, rubbed salt in the wounds.
